The origins of Hatha Vinyasa Yoga are interconnected on many levels. The practice itself transcends mere exercise to become a holistic journey of self-care, empowering individuals to connect deeply with their true selves. Originating in ancient Indian traditions and transcending through the teachings of Krishnamacharya "The Father of modern Yoga" who believed Yoga to be Indias greatest gift to the world.

Hatha Vinyasa Yoga empowers practitioners by building stamina and strength through a delicate balance of mindfulness and physical discipline. You will enhance muscle tone, increase core stability, build endurance, improve balance, develop functional strength, promising steadfast wellness and personal fulfillment.

Breath is our ultimate medicine and the cornerstone of this practice and our lives. Mindful breathing within the postures creates a nexus of healing, possibilities and potential in our daily lives. Hatha Vinyasa is the foundation of our offerings at The Yoga Shala.

Restorative yoga traces its origins to the profound teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, a visionary yogi who revolutionized the way we understand relaxation, yoga, and the intricate relationship between body and mind. A Restorative Yoga practice can give you the feeling of the calm you long for. Judith Hanson Lasaters book Relax and Renew created a wave of deeper understanding towards the profound practice of Restorative Yoga.

Rest does not need to be earned, scheduled or justified. Let us not attach guilt for wanting ease or that relaxing your grip would be irresponsible. Creating a supportive environment, Restorative Yoga uses blocks, bolsters, blankets, straps, rice bags, eye pillows, the wall, soft lights, and calm music cultivating longer holds so you can consciously rest deeply.

Through this practice you will unwind stress, tension, anxiety, impatience, sleep disorders, shallow breathing and radiate calm and freedom inside out.

Yin Yoga was pioneered by Paulie Zink in the 1970s, blending Taoist Yoga and Martial Arts. The term "Yin Yoga" was popularized in the West by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, they developed the practice as slower paced longer holds, targeting connective tissue, the sub conscious web of life.

Essentially Yin is the feminine energy that rises up the channels of the body from the feet towards the head, while Yang energy flows down from the head to the feet. Though Yin is yielding and dense, it is not passive. It is powerful, magnetic and life giving. In the physical sense, Yin represents the solid, deep, and substantial aspects of the body. In the spiritual sense, Yin relates to calm, receptive and inward focused states. Yin takes root in rest as Yang takes root in activity. Conscious deep rest is a gift to yourself and what you will experience in our Yin classes.

Ultimately, health and harmony in the body and the universe come from the balance and interplay of these two forces.

This yoga therapy class offers a gentle, supportive space to explore the deep relationship between your body, emotions, and mind. Through slow, intentional movement, breathwork, and guided awareness, you'll learn to recognize how emotions live in the body and how conscious movement can help release, regulate, and restore.

Rather than striving for performance or flexibility, this practice invites curiosity, self-compassion, and nervous system balance. Each class emphasizes emotional safety, grounding, and inner listening, helping you reconnect with yourself during times of stress, anxiety, or emotional fatigue.

Perfect for those seeking a nurturing practice that honors both emotional healing and embodied presence.

Yoga Therapy: Healing the Emotional Body

It is often said, modern science is still catching up to the wisdom of the ancient Yogis. Sound healing has become a mainstream offering in the world and there is a good reason why. We are affected by sounds, sounds of nature, people, music, machines, some are calming some are not. All sounds affect our "life vibrations", the speed of sound is how fast vibrations travel. Sound waves travel through the water in the body 4 times the speed it travels through the air. There is a deep cellular healing taking place when you relax into the sounds of the instruments, mantras and the silence. The proof is not in what we know, but how we feel.

The Alchemy of Sound Healing can relax and restore the brain, blood flow, muscular tension, negative moods and over thinking, sleep disorders, stress, anxiety, worry, fear, doubt and help with your internal struggles to find this space of peace, contentment, balance and bliss.

The beloved Om Joyful Yoga Gong is 16 years old and has found her way to The Yoga Shala, we cannot wait to share her magic again with the Community!

Back in "the day" we were building a divine Kirtan Community here in South Florida. My hearts devotion is to rebuild and see all the people enjoy this ancient practice that celebrates life, community, happiness, lightness, your connection to the yourself and the divine, (whatever that essence is in your own heart). We get so busy and distracted with life's tasks, and this life is so fragile, so precious and so quick! When we gather, chant, dance, listen and offer our hearts back to ourselves and the divinity of love, there is an ecstatic presence that radiates back into the world.

Please check our schedule for Kirtan events! Hari Bol !!
